Here
is part of a letter that I have dated Oct. 31, 1975 (it's a
copy of the letter)
A synopsis of the
letter;
Homer
told me that Granny Martha had 16 children, she came to Arkansas in
1852. She came to Arkansas by boat from Paint Rock Alabama. She came
down the Tenn. River, Ohio, Mississippi, then up the White River to
Old Jacksonport Arkansas. From Jacksonport she went to Evening Shard,
then to Ash Flat, where she settled on the 160 acres. The farm was
near Butford on the South Fork River, which is near Little George's
present home place.
George
Washington, Mary, and Lewis were with her on the move to Arkansas in
1852. But there had to be other members of the family with her. It
has been said that she was the mother of 16 children in toll. All
being born in Alabama, near Paint Rock.
I
do have a little more info on MARTHA PATSY HARRIS VAUGHN (1815-1911)
it was found in a family bible that her grandmother was from Ireland
&
worked for half a schilling a day, until she earned enough money to
pay for her passage to the United States, maybe in NC, because
Martha's parents were both born in NC. I don't have the grandmother
's name or Martha's parents name...
